Hey Guys, welcome back to my blogs. Today we'll be discussing about the Redmi Note 8, which is the successor of the Redmi Note 7.

Xiaomi's Redmi Note series has been a great success for the company as the devices pack in some great specs at an affordable price. The Chinese giant has put the legacy forward and has launched the Note 8 and the Note 8 Pro with some great specs. Some of the Note 8 highlights are-

  • It features 48 MP quad camera array.
  • It is powered by the Snapdragon 665 and have 4000 mAh battery.
  • Now it includes an 18 Watt fast charger in the box.

Design and Display

The Note 8 is another good looking phone which comes with the gradient finish on the back. There are three colour variants available out there: Neptune Blue, Moonlight White and Space Black. The back here is protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 5, which is the same as the front. You get the physical fingerprint scanner on the back and the quad camera setup arranged vertically on the corner with LED flash.

On the front we have a 6.3" Full HD+ (2280 x 1080) IPS LCD Display with a dot notch. The notch houses an 13 MP selfie camera. The front is protected by the Gorilla Glass 5. On the bottom you get a chin with the Redmi branding.

The power button and the volume buttons are on the right side of the device. On the lower end you get the USB-C port and the speakers. The speakers here are claimed to come with auto-cleaning functionality, which is said to clean itself regularly. Now you also get the 18 W fast charger in-the-box, which was something we wanted.
The phone also have a P2i coating which makes it resistant to accidental splashes and spills.
The SIM card tray is not the hybrid one , so it now supports 2 SIMs and a SD card.

Under the hood

The Note 8 is powered by the 2.0 Ghz Snapdragon 665 chipset (same as the Mi A3) which is a 11nm processor and Adreno 610 GPU. The SD 665 is a decent processor so you won't face any issues in your day-to-day usage. Games like COD and PUBG should run on medium graphics, without any frame lags.

On the battery front you get the traditional 4000 mAh battery which should last over a day on fair usage. An upgrade in this area is the 18 W fast charger which now you get in-the-box.

The base variant of 4+64 GB is available at 9,999. You can also get the 6+128 GB variant at 12,999. The memory is expandable upto 512 GB via an micro SD card.

Cameras

On the camera front the Note 8 is a significant upgrade over it's predecessor the Note 7. The Note 8 now packs in a 48 MP Quad camera setup. The camera sensors include a 48 MP f/1.79 main sensor, a 8 MP f/2.2 wide angle sensor with 120 degree FoV, a 2 MP f/2.4 macro lens and a 2 MP f/2.4 depth sensor for better portrait shots. The camera have EIS for better stabilised videos and can shot upto 4K at 30 fps. The cameras on the new Note 8 seems to be good enough. Let us see how it competes with the Realme 5.

On the software front the device comes with Android 9 Pie on-board with it's very own skin the MIUI. Well the company has promised Android 10 update for the device very soon i.e. before the end of the year. You can check out the roadmap for the Android 10 given below.

The Xiaomi's Redmi Note 8 seems to be another great budget device under 10,000 and should take on its competitors like the Realme 5.
